Taebaek City is located at the southern tip of Gangwon
Province. Seokpo-myeon, Bonghwa-gun and Sangdong-eup,
Yeongwol-gun are located in the south; Dogye-eup,
Samcheok-gun in the east and Gohan-eup, Jeongseon-gun
in the west, thereby bordering with one gun(county)
in Gyeongsang Bukdo Province and three cities and
guns in Gangwon Province. Baekdu Daegan passes through
from the north to southwest. Taebaek is the backbone
of the Korean peninsula, the root of our land, and
the source of such important rivers as the Nam Han
and the Nakdong.
This highland city is located at an average altitude
of 650 meters above sea level. It has a longer
winter and receives more snow than other areas,
and is thus blessed with beautiful snow-covered
scenery. Summers are short and cool and almost
completely insect-free, with an average temperature
is 19¡æ. In addition, Taebaek is located just an
hour's drive from the East Sea, and is thus in
close proximity not just to valleys and mountains,
but to beaches as well. |
