Introduction
|
This
16km-long-valley, located to the east of Mt. Hambaek,
is called Jeolgol due to the many temples that have been
located here over the centuries. Among these were Bonjeok
Temple, Simjeok Temple and Myojeok Temple and Unjeok Temple,
where the monks Jajang Yulsa and Wonhyo practiced asceticism
during the Shilla Dynasty. They were all subsequently
destroyed; the Three-Story Stone Pagoda (Provincial Cultural
Material ¢à126) on the site of Bonjeok Temple is all that
remains today. Entering the valley a further 2km, the
visitor comes to a camp site and a forest recreation park.
This is operated as a village-managed recreation park.
